UCSD Health Sciences

 UCSD Health Sciences는 UCSD School of Medicine, UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, UCSD Medical Center로 이루어져 있다.

 

UCSD (University of California, San Diego) School of Medicine은 라호야 지역에 위치한 의과대학니다. 1968년에 설립된 신생의과대학으로 단기간에 빠른 성장을 보인 미국내 명문 의과대학 중에 하나이다. 1968년에 신입생을 처음 모집했고 1972년에 첫 졸업생을 배출하였다. 2010-2011년 U.S. News and World Report for research 선정 미국내 Best Research Medical School 15위, Best Primary Care 33위에 랭킹되었으며 NIH Top 100 Medical School Ranking 에서는 16위이다. U.S. News and World Report에 의해 미국 공립 5대 의과대학으로 선정되었으며 이 중 가장 신생대학이다. NIH 연구비 수혜 15위의 의과대학이기도 하다.

 

 UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS)는 신생약학대학으로 2000년에 약학대학 설립허가가 나고 2002년부터 신입생을 받아서 2006년에 졸업생을 배출하였으며 매년 Pharm.D. 등의 우수인력을 양성하고 있다.

 

 UCSD Medical School 연관 병원으로는 Hillcrest Medical Center, Thornton Hospital, Rebecca and John Moores UCSD Cancer Center, Shiley Eye Center, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center 등이 있다.

 

 라호야의 School of Medicine 연관 캠퍼스는 매우 넓어서 Medical Teaching Facility, Biochemical Science Building, Biochemical Library, W. M. Keck Building , Leichtag Family Foundation Biomedical Research Building, The Center for Neural Circuits and Behavior (CNCB), George Palade Laboratories for Cellular and Molecular Medicine (Center for Molecular Medicine West, CMMW), Center for Molecular Medicine East (CMME), The Sam and Rose Stein Clinical Research Building, Clinical Research Facility, Rita L. Atkinson Residences,  Medical Education and Telemedicine Center 등이 있으며 약학대학인 UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences도 있다.

<Biochemical Science Building> 

UCSD school of Medicine 건물 중 가장 큰 건물로 Medical Teaching Facility 사이에 1998년에 Kiki Smith 작품인 UCSD Stuart Collection "Standing"이 있다.

<W. M. Keck Building>

2001년 12월에 준공된 자기공명영상 연구건물이다. Funtional MRI Building이라고도 한다.

 

 

 

<Leichtag Family Foundation Biomedical Research Building>

2003년 2월에 준공한 7층 연구건물로 주로 생화학연구실들이 있다.

미국의 제약회사인 MD Pharmaceutical Inc의 설립자인 Lee Leichtag과 가족들이

1992년에 설립한 Leichtag Family Foundation에서 기부한 기금으로 건립하였다. 

 

<Center for Molecular Medicine>

 

Center for Molecular Medicine West (CMMW)가 지어진 후 1995년에 Center Molecular Medicine EAST (CMME가 건설되었다.

Center for Molecular Medicine WEST는 George Palade Laboratories for Cellular and Molecular Medicine 이라고도 하며 1990년 1월에 완공한 3층 건물이다. 1990–2008 UCSD에 근무한 노벨상 수상자인 George Emil PaladeGeorge Palade를 기리기위해 지어진 건물이다. 두 건물 사이에 1991년에 Jackie Ferrara에 의해 만들어진 UCSD Stuart Collection 중에 하나인 Terrace가 있다.

Samuel Stein과 Rose Stein부부의 기부에 의해 1991년 1월에 완공한 5층건물이다.

주로 임상연구를 진행하고 있다. The Sam and Rose Stein Institute for Research for Aging이 있다.

<Medical Education and Telemedicine Center >

 

최근 UCSD 의과대학은 라호야 캠퍼스 내에 700만달러(약 850억이상)을 들여 Medical Education and Telemedicine Center 건물을 완공하였다. 100,000 제곱피트 즉 2,800평 정도의 건평을 가진 이건물에는 응급실, 중환자실, 수술실, 치료실의 목업을 가지고 학생, 방문의사, UCSD의료진들을 교육할 수 있는 300만달러 (약 350억 이상)의 교육장비를 갖추고 있다. 이 장비에는 복강경 수술과 로봇수술 장지도 포함되어 있으며 22개의 수술대, 20곳으 미세수술실, 18개의 학생을 위한 시험공간이 마련되어 있다.

 

 

<Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS)>

 

캘리포니아주에 2번째로 개설된 약학대학으로 남부캘리포니아의 유일한 약학대학이다.

 

 

 

<Rita L. Atkinson Residences> 

2011년 1월에 준공한 10층 건물로 250개 이상의 방을 가진 기숙사이다.

Psychologist인 Rita L. Atkinson 기리기 위해 지어진 건물이다. 

 

 

 

<School of Medicine Buildings>

의과대학의 작은 부속 건물들이 Stein Research Building 남쪽에 위치해 있으며 사무실로 사용되고 있다.

p602와 P604 등 넓은 주차장들이 있지만 항상 만원....

 

  UCSD Medical Center에는 Hillcrest Medical Center와 La Jolla Medical Center가 있다. La Jolla Medical Center에는 Thornton Hospital, Rebecca and John Moores UCSD Cancer Center, Shiley Eye Center, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center 등이 있다.

 

 

 

 

<Hillcrest Medical Center>

샌디에고 시내쪽인 힐크레스트에 위치한 386병상의 병원으로 일차진료와 특화센터를 운용하고 있다.

<The John M. and Sally B. Thornton Hospital and Perlman Ambulatory Care Center>
1993년에 건립되었으며 Sally Bullard Thornton 부부의 The John M. and Sally B. Thornton Hospital Foundation이 병원 건립에 기여하였다. 119병상의 병원으로 호텔과 같은 환경을 가지고 있다.

 

 

 

<Rebecca and John Moores UCSD Cancer Center>
1979년에 설립된 39개의 미국국립암연구소 부설 통합 암센터 중에 하나이다. 2005년에 새로운 건물로 개원하였다.

 

 

 

<The Donald P. and Darlene V. Shiley Eye Center>
1992년에 설립되었으며 1995년에 추가로 The Abraham Ratner Children’s Eye Center가 건립되었다. 2004년에 glaucoma and retina center가 추가되었다. 이 병원 건립을 지원한 Donald P. Shiley는 1971년에 Bjork-Shiley heart valve 를 개발한 유명 엔지니어로 2010년에 향년 90세의 나이로 타계했다.

 

 <Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center>
  심장병을 앓았던 Qualcomm Enterprise Services의 CEO인 Richard Sulpizio와 Maria (Gaby)  Sulpizio 부부의 천만달러의 기부로 설립된 이 병원은 2010년에 완공하여 2011년에 진료를 시작한 심장병 전문 병원이다.

<기타 Health Science 연관 기관들>

 

232병상을 보유한 The Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System에서도 UCSD의 연구, 학생교육, 진료 등을 시행하고 있으며 UCSD의 스탭들이 진료하고 있다.  

 

 

 

<La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology>
1989년에 존스홉킨스대학의 Dr. Kimishige Ishizaka, Dr. Teruko Ishizaka에 의해 시작한 연구소로 원레 토리파인지역에 있다가 1996년에 현재의 UCSD Science Park내의 새건물로 이동하였다. UCSD의 immunology 부서와 활발한 공동연구를 하고 있다.
